Messages, calls,
pictures and anything sent between users can’t be intercepted as the travel
between devices. Simply put, only the sender and receiver of a message can view its content. This is an update that should be a gigantic improvement in the tech-world and
especially for WhatsApp users and this comes on the hills of the battle between Apple and the
FBI over a federal order ruling that an iPhone believed to be owned by a mass
shooter should be opened.
This update cuts across
every device which runs Whatsapp, that is from iPhones to Android phones to Windows
phones and (not to be left out) the old school Nokia flip phones.
In a
blog post announcing the update, WhatsApp states: "The idea is simple:
when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group
chat that you send that message to," WhatsApp wrote. "No one can
see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive
regimes. Not even us. End-to-end encryption helps make communication via
WhatsApp private – sort of like a face-to-face conversation."
This minor update
will surely have a major impact especially for individuals that have been
advocating for enhanced security to information shared between devices.
Some important data
can still be accessed by WhatsApp (like Users Behaviour) but the actual content
of any conversation will be much harder to read.
